Hey Mike - you're spot on with the doctor analogy - it's all about what drives us. Although, knowing myself, I'd probably doubt that doctor, just as I'm doubting myself when trying to stick to anything. I may find a reason as "present" Adriana, but "future" Adriana might disagree, which often leads to broken habits and broken promises to ourselves.

As for orthodox monks - only men can be monks in orthodox christian monasteries, I'd be a sister :) I never was one, we were just guests over the weekend, as students, helping out with the chores and participating to services. It was actually more fun than it sounds.
